New to Pilates or wondering where to start? Here is what to know about our classes, your first visit and finding an approach that fits you.
Pilates is a whole-body exercise method that combines controlled movement, breathing and coordination. You practice moving with attention to your alignment and technique while developing strength, flexibility and body awareness.
Pilates works more than your abs. Exercises can involve your legs, hips, glutes, back, arms and shoulders, as well as the muscles that support your trunk. The focus is on how your body moves together, rather than working only one area.
A Reformer has a sliding platform, springs and straps. A Tower is an upright frame with spring attachments and bars that offers additional exercise options. Both use spring resistance; your instructor guides the setup and movement. You do not need to know the equipment before starting.
It can be either. Controlled movements and spring resistance can create a challenging workout without fast movement. Low impact does not mean effortless or automatically suitable for every condition. The exercise, pace and setup all matter.
Start with a routine you can sustain and recover from. Ask your instructor about a frequency that fits your experience, goals and other activity. Progress varies, so we do not promise a particular result or timeline.
We are a women-only boutique studio in Brooklyn, with eight premium Allegro 2 Reformers equipped with Towers. Small classes make room for personal attention and guidance as you learn and progress.
Yes, beginners are welcome. Let us know it is your first visit and arrive early so you can meet your instructor and get familiar with the equipment. You are not expected to know the movements or terminology already.
We do not divide our regular classes into separate beginner and advanced levels. Beginners are welcome alongside experienced clients. Contact us if you are unsure where to start, especially if you need additional support. Mixed-level does not mean every session suits every individual.
No. You do not need to reach a particular fitness or flexibility level before exploring Pilates. Tell us if you are returning after a long break or feel unsure about movement, so we can discuss an appropriate starting point.
Age alone does not determine whether a class is right for you. Your mobility, balance, health and comfort with the equipment matter more. Tell us about any support you need before booking so we can discuss whether a group class or a more individual start makes sense.
Tell your instructor. Ask for a different option, a slower pace or a rest rather than trying to match the person next to you. Stop if you feel pain or become unwell. A group class may not offer every adjustment someone needs.
Private sessions are available by request, subject to availability. They may be worth discussing if you want more individual attention or help getting comfortable with the equipment. Contact us to discuss your goals and available appointments.
Modified Pilates can be appropriate for some pregnancies, but not every exercise or group class is suitable. Discuss your exercise plans with your prenatal healthcare provider, then contact us before booking to discuss the support and modifications you may need.
Please speak with your prenatal healthcare provider and the studio before choosing a class. Pregnancy is not an automatic reason to avoid all exercise, but a regular mixed-level class is not the same as a dedicated prenatal session. We need to discuss whether the available instruction fits your needs.
There is no single return date that suits everyone. Recovery, birth type, complications and symptoms all matter. Discuss returning to equipment-based exercise with your healthcare provider, then contact us about starting gradually. A general postnatal check does not mean every movement or class will be appropriate.
If you have concerns about abdominal separation, leaking, pelvic pressure or pain, speak with a healthcare professional or pelvic health physical therapist before joining. Tell the studio about any exercise guidance you receive. A regular Pilates class does not replace an individual assessment or treatment plan.
It depends on your situation. Ask your healthcare professional or physical therapist what activity is appropriate, then speak with us before booking. Exercise may form part of a care plan, but Pilates is not a diagnosis or a guaranteed treatment. New or worsening symptoms should be assessed rather than worked through.
Contact your healthcare professional and the studio before booking. Some Pilates movements may need to be changed or avoided, particularly with spinal fractures or a higher fracture risk. We need to understand your exercise guidance and whether the class can provide the support you need.
Wear comfortable clothing that lets you move freely, bring water and wear grip socks. Avoid loose accessories that could catch on equipment. If you have questions about what to wear, ask us before your visit.
Arrive early enough to introduce yourself and get oriented before class begins. Tell the instructor it is your first time and wait for guidance before using the equipment. Check your booking details for any specific arrival instructions.
Yes. Share relevant movement limitations, pregnancy, recent surgery or healthcare guidance privately before class. You do not need to put detailed medical information in a public comment or chat. If your needs change, let the instructor know before your next session.
Contact us with your experience, goals and the kind of support you need. We can discuss the available instructors and class options. For a specific health concern, ask about relevant experience before booking rather than assuming every instructor offers specialist support.
Check the live booking schedule for each session's duration, start time, instructor and availability. Use the current listing rather than an older screenshot, as schedules can change.
Use our official Pilates by Mi NY app or the online booking options linked from our app page. Choose your session, complete the booking steps and check that it appears as confirmed in your account before coming in.
Check the official booking system for current class packages and booking options. Review validity, usage rules and any other terms before purchasing. Contact us if you need help understanding which option fits your routine.
Use the official booking system to manage your reservation and check its cancellation terms. If you need help or expect to arrive late, contact the studio. Please do not assume a chat message has canceled your place or that late entry is available.
